Piece

IMG_3397.jpeg

Description

This is my lidded box project. It has four spheres in each corner of the lid to keep it in place. I went with the checkerboard pattern because I wanted to test my precision with the undergale. I made a cherry handle because my mom used to have a ceramic pitcher with a cherry on it and my last name translates to cherry too.

Reflection

I'm happy with how this piece turned out, but there are changes I would make if I were to do it again. First, I would be more precise with my checkerboard pattern because it did not come out very neat. Second, I would reinforce the stem of the cherry because it broke when we moved.

Description of Process

First, I made a slump mold over a bowl. Then, I pressed a leaf I found outside and cleaned onto the center. Once the mark was there, I removed the leaf and tidy-ed up the outline. After it's first firing, I put orange and green glaze to illustrate the changing seasons like the poem describes.

Reflection

This may be my favorite piece yet. I do not have a final photo for this because the piece was taken to the art show before I was able to take one. Overall, I think it is a good interpretation of the poem and it connects with the fondness that the author has for the fall season.
